It Smells Like a Flip Flop Holiday.........

What scents immediately remind you of summer? What memories flood your mind when you catch the scent of freshly cut grass, the sharp tang of chlorine from a public pool, the smoky goodness of an old-school charcoal BBQ grill, a vinyl garden hose, or the unmistakable aroma of Coppertone or Hawaiian Tropic suntan lotion? For me, these scents transport me back to the summers of my youth—specifically, the carefree days of the 1970s.

Scents have an amazing ability to take us back in time, connecting us with cherished memories of childhood summers and long-forgotten moments. But why do these smells evoke such powerful emotions and memories? Read more to discover how the sense of smell is uniquely tied to our memories, and why certain aromas are like time machines for the soul.

Why the Gulf Coast of Florida is known as the Emerald Coast!

What is in a name?  We have already talked about how Carillon Beach came to be called Carillon Beach (see link here for that blog), but now I am curious to know why Florida's Gulf Coast/Panhandle area is known as the "Emerald Coast."  If you look at photos or are able to visit, you can clearly see why the Gulf Coast is referred to as the Emerald Coast.  The water just offshore is Emerald Green, and shines brightly reflected off of the sugar white sands that are common as well.  The Emerald Green color of the water clearly lends itself to the area's moniker of the "Emerald Coast."  Now let's find out why the water is green, and why the sand is so white.....

What is the Beach Warning Flags System?

If you are planning a trip to Panama City Beach, Florida, text PCBFLAGS to 888777 to receive daily text alerts.  Be aware and look for the flags up and down the beach. Know what a rip current is, how to spot it, and what to do if you find yourself caught in one.  Do not go into the water when the beach flags indicate the currents are not safe.  Protect yourself AND your children.  Don't be a statistic.

Carillon Beach, a "Village by the Sea"

Before November 2020, I had neither heard of nor visited CARILLON BEACH.   Eddie, my husband, is a "master researcher", and discovered it when researching the Panama City Beach area.  When Eddie and I visited Panama City Beach to look at properties to possibly purchase,  our realtor, Bob Thomas, did us the favor of taking us to what we now know as FLIP FLOP HOLIDAY right out of the shoot!  As we drove through the gates at Carillon Beach, we had a rising sense of excitement and anticipation.  The white picket fences and tidy neighborhood grabbed our attention.  The house, built in 2017, was in excellent condition.  Honestly though, it was the neighborhood, it was the CARILLON BEACH community that we fell in love with! CARILLON BEACH is the main reason we decided to buy where we did.

Bay County Sheriff's Office: Protecting Bay County 365, 24/7

I have a deep respect and appreciation for Police and Law Enforcement Officers all across our country.  When I was a young girl, my home was broken into by a drugged out, whacked out man.  Police and LEO's put on their uniforms and go into our communities every day in an effort to protect those in danger, to preserve law and order, and to maintain public safety.  These brave souls are often maligned, disrespected, put in harm's way in perilous situations, and are often underpaid.  They are often given a bad rap by the press.  I am here to give honor and praise to those who choose to serve and protect our communities.  Today I am giving kudos to Bay County Sheriff's Office, and specifically to Sgt. Mike Morris!
